This page will include updates relevant to Scotland’s Covid Memorial.

The installation of the memorial artwork, ‘I remember’, began on the National Day of Remembrance, March 23rd, 2022, with a ceremony of remembrance, laying of wreaths, planting of wildflowers, and reading. The Riverside Grove will be completed by early April.

Mark Stephen produced this wonderful radio feature on the memorial, broadcast on Radio Scotland’s ‘Scotland Outdoors podcast. It includes interviews with bereaved families and people with Long Covid. The recordings were made on 14 march, 2022, at the burial of the ‘I remember’ artwork, in Pollok Country Park. Listen here.

The audiobook element of the artwork was recently recorded by Robert Carlyle. The recording was made in Vancouver and hearing the text for the first time was incredibly moving. You can read more here. It will launch on Bandcamp on March 23rd.

The best place to read about the creation of the memorial is in the many articles The Herald have published as part of the public fund-raising campaign.

The first phase of the memorial will have its public launch on May 27th, and will include a community walk, or picnic for those unable to walk. Details of the timings will be announced nearer the time.

The book of ‘I remember’, which accompanies the memorial, will be published by Stewed Rhubarb in late May and launch at the public opening.

There’s a feature on the memorial artist, Alec Finlay, in The Herald, written by Vicky Allan, which you can see here.

The Long Covid podcast did an interview with Alec which can be heard here.
